About Dr. Andrew Cottingham

Andrew Cottingham, MD, is a pain management and regenerative medicine physician at Optimal Pain & Regenerative Medicine’s Addison and Arlington, Texas, locations. Dr. Cottingham was the first physician to implant the Abbott Axium DRG Stimulator System in a Dallas-Fort Worth Baylor facility. Because of the selective and extensive training administered by Abbott Laboratories, only a limited number of physicians in the United States are trained to perform such implants.

Dr. Cottingham has over two decades of experience helping patients suffering from chronic pain live pain-free. He specializes in comprehensive interventional pain therapies, such as advanced minimally invasive techniques, ultrasound-guided injections, and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Cottingham graduated with his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Cottingham completed his internship at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, and a residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Prior to exclusively dedicating his practice to pain medicine, Dr. Cottingham worked for a prominent Dallas-Fort Worth area anesthesiology group, was the medical director of an ambulatory surgery center (ASC), and served as medical director of a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) in a large metropolitan teaching hospital.

Dr. Cottingham enjoys helping patients suffering from debilitating chronic pain find relief. He offers innovative treatments, such as intrathecal pain pumps, regenerative medicine with stem cells and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), steroid injections, spinal cord stimulator implantation, and Vertiflex® Superion® treatment for spinal stenosis.

Dr. Cottingham is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. His expertise in pain management and regenerative medicine has earned him top recognition by his peers and various professional organizations.

When he is not working, Dr. Cottingham enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and hunting. He recently completed a hiking expedition in Peru, trekking through the Andes mountains to Machu Picchu. Dr. Cottingham warmly welcomes new patients to Optimal Pain & Regenerative Medicine.
