BurstDR Stimulation

The National Institutes of Health estimate approximately 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. Defined as pain that lasts longer than 12 weeks, chronic pain is commonly caused by a traumatic accident or injury, a degenerative condition or as part of the natural aging process. OPTIMAL Pain & Regenerative Medicine is proud to offer BurstDR™ stimulation from Abbott Laboratories to patients living in the greater Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth, Texas communities. This physician-designed form of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is clinically proven to provide superior chronic pain control over traditional SCS therapy.

Overview of Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a complex and challenging condition for both physicians and patients. Ongoing pain places a large burden on a patient’s life, causing them to no longer participate in family events, athletic activities or work requirements. Many patients move from one treatment option to the next seeking long-term pain relief, only to find an incomplete or partial response to treatment.

The physicians at OPTIMAL Pain & Regenerative Medicine strive to reduce each patient’s level of chronic pain, as well as the associated emotional suffering. With Abbott BurstDR stimulation, patients are now able to experience diminished long-term physical and emotional pain responses.

What is Traditional Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)?

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a chronic pain treatment designed to deliver small electrical pulses to the spinal cord’s pain sensing pathways. Patient’s undergoing SCS often report a decreased level of pain because the system alters the pain signals traveling to the brain.

SCS is a sophisticated system consisting of leads, an implantable pulse generator (IPG), remote control and portable charging system. The leads are composed of thin wires that provide precise pulses to the spinal cord from the IPG that is surgically placed under the skin. The remote control allows the patient to turn the system on and off, as well as adjust the physician set stimulation parameters.

What is Abbott BurstDR™ Stimulation?

BurstDR stimulation from Abbott Laboratories is designed to help reduce a patient’s physical and emotional responses to chronic pain. BurstDR stimulation is most often appropriate for patients suffering from a wide variety of chronic pain impacting their arms, legs and back, as well as persistent pain resulting from Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS).

The brain receives information in two ways – neurons travel through the central nervous system’s pathways at steady, singular intervals, known as tonic waves, or in clustered “bursts.” By mimicking the natural “burst waves” of the brain, BurstDR stimulation more naturally targets the brain’s medial and lateral pathways, allowing the system to be an ideal choice for most patients.

This technology has been clinically proven to provide superior relief of chronic pain over traditional tonic spinal cord stimulation. BurstDR stimulation provides the 20-30% of chronic pain sufferers who do not respond to traditional SCS with a long-term, effective treatment option.

OPTIMAL Pain & Regenerative Medicine takes great pride in offering BurstDR stimulation from Abbott Laboratories. The cutting-edge system is the only approved form of burst stimulation to have been evaluated in a large scale, multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial in the United States.

If you live in the greater Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth, Texas communities and suffer from chronic pain, please contact OPTIMAL Pain & Regenerative Medicine to determine if you are a candidate for the Abbott BurstDR™ stimulation.
